Ghostly is the first word that comes to my mind when I look at this. Clearly the transparency of the model was intended to suggest something along these lines, but what really knocks this one home is the other elements in the piece and how they compliment the composition as a whole. The shadows on the wall of varying intensity continue the transparent feel of the ghost carrying the "feel" into the rest of the piece. Also, the placement of the ghost with the piano causes me to connect the piano with a sense of antiquity hailing to old Europe or perhaps even the old west, although the environment in which the image is taken doesn't necessarily directly hint towards either as it is clearly a contemporary home, and not necessarily an abandoned one. If you wanted to convey a greater sense of decay, perhaps a locale in greater disrepair would have done a better job framing the shot, but otherwise I feel this piece clearly conveys a ghostly music parlor feel which, based on your description, will suit your intended audience just fine.
Yes, the majority of these were done using PS layers. For a detailed description, check out the entry in my Photographer's Journal entitled "How to make a ghost" [link] .
